SOLD P. GILLES (signed) pair of Art Deco wall sconces, quality glass and bronze, collectible vintage original France 1930s Item ref 2757
Paul GILLES pair of Art Deco wall sconces. Superb quality and design. 25cm (10”) high large enough to fill any wall. Vintage original France 1930s.
GILLES did not manufacture glass; he would work with major glass producers like DEGUE and have them made to his proprietary design with his signature. His glass tulip shades are special, they are slightly larger, made of thick glass (heavier), have crisp, clean, sharp detail in the floral and linear surface motifs. These are signed and have an elegant bell shape. No chips or cracks.
The bronze fixtures are by GILLES signed P.G. model 530. Beautiful bronze with many details. Horn of plenty motif with a bouquet of flowers on the wall plate. Instead of a smooth tube he crimped a motif on the surface; very few other lighting makers have done this demonstrating his passion for detail. The socket cover are a GILLES design which he used on many of his chandelier fixtures; the flared shape of the cover 55mm in diameter is designed to complement his glass shades covering perfectly the end cut off for the socket hole. He was passionate about his design and attention to detail.
Furnished with new wiring for 220v or 110v
